What is direct primary care (DPC)?

Direct primary care is a healthcare model where patients pay a monthly fee directly to their primary care physician. This approach eliminates insurance involvement in primary care services, allowing for more personalized and accessible healthcare. The model emphasizes transparent pricing and enhanced doctor-patient relationships.

What services are included in my membership?

Your membership covers a comprehensive range of primary care services. These include unlimited office visits, same-day appointments, various telehealth options, annual physical examinations, management of chronic conditions, preventive care, and basic in-office procedures such as EKGs, sutures, and laboratory tests.

Are there any extra costs besides the monthly fee?

The monthly fee covers most primary care services. For additional services like laboratory tests, imaging studies, or medications, we offer significantly reduced prices. We ensure full transparency by discussing these costs with you in advance.

Do you offer family or employer group plans?

We provide discounted rates for couples, families, and small businesses seeking to offer affordable primary care to their employees. These plans are designed to make quality healthcare more accessible to groups.

Do I still need health insurance?

While direct primary care covers many healthcare needs, it doesn't replace comprehensive health insurance. We recommend maintaining insurance coverage for hospitalizations, specialist consultations, surgeries, and other services beyond primary care. Many patients find that combining DPC with a high-deductible insurance plan is an effective strategy.

Can I join if I have insurance or Medicare?

Individuals with any insurance status, including Medicare, are welcome to join Ascend. However, it's important to note that we do not bill insurance companies or Medicare. Your membership is a separate arrangement paid directly to our practice.

What if I need to see a specialist or go to the hospital?

While your DPC physician will manage the majority of your healthcare needs, they can provide referrals to specialists or hospitals when necessary. For these services outside of primary care, you would use your insurance coverage or pay separately.

Can I cancel my membership at any time?

Our membership is structured on a month-to-month basis without a long-term commitment. You have the flexibility to cancel at any time, though we request a 30-day notice for cancellations.
